A PLATFORM TO EMPOWER OUR STATE
Expand JSA into Uncharted Territory!
The Southern California JSA that I envision is one that has more thriving and engaged chapters than ever before, and serving as your Director of Expansion has equipped me with the experience necessary to fulfill this vision. As Director of Expansion, I’ve had the opportunity to champion our record-breaking expansion efforts this year. However, the work isn’t over yet. As your next Governor, I will ensure that SoCal JSA takes new and more epic strides in its expansion efforts so that we may spread our mission of democracy and civic engagement to more Southern California students than ever before!

- To fulfill my 135 chapter goal, I’ll increase the number of expansion agents we have working for our state cabinet
- Provide chapter promo packets with exciting graphic designs and flyers for events like club rush, state conventions, one days, etc.
- Create a carpool google form for JSAers to submit a request a ride to a nearby JSA event so that Chapter Coordinators can connect them to people in their area attending that same event
- Reinstate the Channel Islands Regional One Day to strengthen CIR morale
- Refocus expansion efforts on expanding into areas like San Diego that have untapped expansion potential
- Receive potential chapter contacts from current Chapter Presidents so that we can add to the contacts that cabinet currently provides.
Equal Opportunity for All!
I’m what you’d call a JSA outsider. Unlike most state candidates, I haven’t been apart of this organization since the first day of my freshman year. However, this fact has shaped a huge part of my perspective on this organization. Within my time as a member of SoCal JSA, it has become increasingly clear that there exists a disconnect between the regular member and his/her state officials. Talking to many of you, I’ve heard concerns about lack of opportunity and alienation. Many members of the Southern California Junior State don’t feel as if they are being given the same access and opportunities to become more involved in our organization. As Governor, my main priority would be to make you feel welcomed. I want our state to become more interactive with its members, and I want to keep members engaged inside and outside of the overnight convention experience.

- Make an open application for traditionally exclusive events like Pre-Con and Montezuma Leadership Summit so that qualified and dedicated JSAers are allowed to attend rather than just the Governor’s closest friends
- Execute chapter president calls to promote Summer Cabinet Application season in order to ensure more JSAers from a more diverse pool of chapters are knowledgeable of the release and deadline of applications
- Have One Days publicized as soon as possible. There are far too many times where they are publicized without enough time for schools and their students to prepare, so I plan to change that and increase One Day attendance.
Revitalize and Redefine the Governor’s Role!
If elected, I plan to revolutionize the Governor’s role. I will champion transparency as a guiding priority of my tenure so that no member is too intimidated to voice their concerns or opinions to me. To ensure our state’s future success, we’ll need a Governor who wants to talk to the people, who strives to be accessible, and never ceases to engage his constituency.

- Implement a bimonthly State of the Union video address to update Southern California JSAers on state progress and activities
- Host town hall forums at state-sponsored one days like Fall Leadership Conference to give members a platform to voice their concerns and feedback
New Convention Ideas!
The truth is that most members of the Southern California Junior State are not engaged in state activities besides our three annual overnight conventions. Our overnight conventions are most commonly people’s first introduction to the organization; that is why we need to prioritize exceptional programming to ensure that people’s first impression of our organization have them coming back for more. Long, drawn out opening sessions? Expensive food? Not so-good evening activities? If elected, I will work my hardest to ensure none of these bummers exist at future conventions.

- Implement a screening of all keynote speaker candidates to ensure only the most qualified and intelligible individuals are given the opportunity to speak to our state at overnight conventions
- Host a student moderated opening session debate between the two keynote speakers to excite the crowd and bring a new energy to opening session
- Expand evening activities to include other equally as fun activities like scavenger hunts and trivia competitions for those who may not enjoy the dances too much
- Ensure that lights are off at all times during the dance and that DJs play the music JSAers want to hear
- To dissuade the big chapter domination we often see at conventions, I will implement small and big chapter awards so that a chapter from each of these categories are awarded with an engraved gavel to celebrate their superb participation at a given state convention. This would successfully boost small chapter morale and lessen the problem of big chapters winning all best speaker gavels
Fresh Fundraising!
Convention prices have skyrocketed within recent years. It is hugely unacceptable for students willing to attend one of our conventions to not be able to do so because of financial obstacles. When JSA becomes a place only friendly for the financially well-off, I believe, we’ve personally failed our generation. I’m not going to lie and promise lower convention prices, because while I am more than ready to persist for lower prices, I know that the cost of attendance to overnight conventions isn’t within my jurisdiction. However, I promise to mobilize our state cabinet to bring a new wave of excitement and success to our state fundraising efforts.

- Implement funny fundraising activities like dunk tanks at conventions to raise money for the state scholarship fund
- Expand the fundraising department; increasing the amount of fundraising agents we have in our state cabinet will ensure better fundraising results
- Revitalize the JSA online store by including new merch that everyone wants and deserves! There will also be regional and chapter-specific merch that everyone will be able to purchase and receive at their doorstep.
